ENGAGE: CONNECT. GROW. SERVE. #5 – LEAD – SERMON RESOURCES
ENGAGING THE PRACTICAL TIP
This week we looked at a new definition of leadership and were encouraged to be more free in presenting our desires to Jesus. For the next few days, you might try to be aware of ways in which God is able to use you to bring his love, mercy, care and compassion into the world. Some have found it helpful to begin the day with a prayer that God will do this through during the day. Others have found helpful to end the day by reflecting over the day and recalling how God was present to and through us or not. Particularly if we recall the presence of God or his presence to others through us, this is a great opportunity to be thankful and praise God for his goodness and grace. Your reflections on the past day can also become the basis for your prayer the next morning.
Moving to the topic of being free to ask Jesus for what we want, you probably don’t have to look hard for something you really want. As you reflect on your day past or coming up, tell Jesus what you want. Tell him why you want it and why he should give it to you or to someone else for whom you might be praying. Try to be fully present when you make the request by including all of your mind and emotions involved in the issue. If it is a particularly emotional area, you might want some privacy when you do this. Or you might want a trusted friend with you. Sit with your request and God. Do you think God heard you? Is he responding? What might be be saying? Is he asking you a question? Not down some notes of your conversation and feel free to return to your request another time, if it wasn’t answered immediately.
