JESUS IS TRUSTWORTHY – SERMON RESOURCES
ENGAGING THE PRACTICAL TIP
We don’t often take an honest look at how we view God. We can easily supply the “correct” answers, but do these answers reflect our true feelings? Do our actions and patterns for engaging in the world reveal a different set of answers? Paul says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
This week, set aside some time to ask yourself a really honest question. When no one else is concerned, ask yourself “How do I you truly feel about God?” It may help to compare what we say we believe to how we act. For instance, we say that God is trustworthy, but does the way we live demonstrate trust? Write down what you feel, being as straightforward and honest as you can. Be sure to be gentle with yourself. This exercise is not designed to make you feel guilty, but rather to highlight any blindspots we might have in our relationships with God, or any places in our hearts that still need to experience healing. See this exercise as a path toward deeper relationship with Jesus. Now sit with your reflections for a a day or so. Then ask, “Is the way I feel about God consistent with the God that Jesus revealed?” Spend some time in prayer, particularly around any areas that may require growth. Challenge yourself to trust that the Holy Spirit will help you to encounter the reality of God’s character and goodness.
