ENGAGING THE PRACTICAL TIP

  1. Discovery Bible Study Form
  2. Discovery Bible Study Example Form

We will be using both the Three-Column, Discovery Bible Study which Pastor Donnell passed out at church this Sunday and the newsletters from the Finance Committee of the church board and Pastor Donnell. The Bible Study covers Matthew 6:25-34.

You might read the passage from Matthew slowly, once or twice. Try to be open to whatever comes to mind or which God might be highlighting for you. Using the study guide, put the passage into your own words. Feel free to expand on those verses which seemed particularly relevant as you were reading. Read your version of the passage from Matthew slowly, trying to be open to whatever God has for you in it. If you sensed any inspirations from the Lord during your readings, jot them down in the last column of the study guide.

Now we shift to the newsletters. Read the letter from the Finance Committee, followed by the letter from Pastor Donnell. You don’t have to read these slowly, as you did with the passage from Matthew. But try to remain open to anything that God might want to do or say with you as you are reading. If you sensed any inspirations from the Lord while you were reading the letters, jot these down as well in the last column of the study guide.

You might share the results of this exercise with a close friend, especially if you were inspired to take any specific actions in these areas.

Feel free to share your experience with others who have also tried this prayer exercise by commenting below or emailing: spiritual.practices@annarborvineyard.org.
